Warship builder Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) and Rolls-Royce inked a Frame and Individual License Agreement for collaborative production and localization of the MTU IMO Tier II compliant Series 4000 Marine Engines, designed for governmental ships. This strategic partnership, aligned with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, aims to manufacture the engines at GRSE’s Diesel Engine Plant in Ranchi. The collaboration holds significant market potential for projects involving Fast Patrol Vessels, Interceptor Boats, and Fast Attack Craft for the Indian Navy and Coast Guard, representing a boost to indigenous defense capabilities.
Rolls-Royce’s Power Systems’ MTU Series 4000 engines, with a power output ranging from 746 to 4300 KW, provide optimal propulsion for diverse naval vessels, spanning small patrol vessels to frigates and large submarines. Key features include high-power density, an impressive power-to-weight ratio, compact design, and robust mechanical and thermal stability.
The License Agreement encompasses various aspects to meet end customer requirements, including the assembly of Licensee-built Products, manufacturing or procurement of Licensee-built parts and/or components, engine testing, and finishing (including painting). Furthermore, it involves the manufacturing or procurement of Licensee-built Parts and/or Components for producing Licensee-built Products within the designated Territory. The agreement also covers the sale and after-sales services of Licensee-built Products within India for the specified application. This collaboration exemplifies a significant stride towards bolstering indigenous manufacturing capabilities in the defense sector, contributing to national security and self-reliance.
