Government Initiates Consultant Appointment for GPS-Based Toll Collection System on National Highways, Announces Minister Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, revealed on Thursday the appointment of a consultant for the implementation of a GPS-based toll collection system on national highways. Gadkari further disclosed plans for a pilot introduction of this system alongside existing FASTags.

Responding in writing to Lok Sabha, Gadkari outlined the decision to initially roll out the GNSS-based Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) System on selected sections of National Highways, with a dedicated consultant assigned to oversee the process.

In addition, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is actively encouraging FASTag users with incomplete KYC to fulfill their “Know Your Customer” (KYC) requirements as per RBI guidelines.

Gadkari emphasized NHAI’s recent efforts to ensure 100% KYC compliance within the FASTag system, aiming to prevent inconvenience to road users at toll plazas.

Under the ‘One Vehicle One FASTag’ initiative, NHAI aims to streamline the system by deactivating or blacklisting multiple FASTags issued for a single vehicle.
