JSW Steel Limited has unveiled a partnership with JFE Steel Corporation, Japan, to establish JSW JFE Electrical Steel Private Limited, a firm dedicated to manufacturing Grain Oriented Electrical Steel in India. Situated in District Bellary, Karnataka, the manufacturing facility represents a planned investment of Rs 5500 crores.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on February 12, 2024, signaling the start of production slated for the fiscal year 2027. There are also plans for further capacity expansion to meet the rising demand for this type of steel in India. This collaboration is significant as it marks the first instance of end-to-end manufacturing of Grain Oriented Electrical Steel products within India.
The joint venture is geared towards addressing the increasing domestic demand for such steel and making a substantial contribution to the country’s energy infrastructure. Grain-oriented electrical steel is indispensable for energy-efficient transformers, serving as the core material for various transformer types.
