Tata and Airbus have entered into an agreement to collaborate on manufacturing Airbus’s H125 single-engine helicopters and establishing a Final Assembly Line (FAL) for commercial purposes in Vadodara, Gujarat.

The 36-acre FAL is set to be operational by November 2024, utilizing components from Airbus’ Main Constituent Assembly line in Hyderabad. Additionally, the partnership will involve the production of at least forty C-295 transport aircraft at the Vadodara facility, overseen by Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL).

This agreement, announced during French President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to India, underscores the strengthening ties between India and France in defense and aerospace sectors. The Tata-Airbus collaboration aims to address the rising demand for helicopters in India, catering to various sectors and applications, including transportation, emergency services, disaster management, law enforcement, tourism, and aerial work missions.

The H125 helicopters produced in India are expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing regional connectivity and supporting the ‘Make In India’ initiative. The collaboration aligns with India’s defense-industrial roadmap, contributing to the nation’s defense capabilities. The facility in Vadodara is part of a comprehensive deal worth Rs 21,935 crores, reflecting India’s growing capabilities in aircraft manufacturing. The collaboration marks a significant step toward India’s self-sufficiency in the defense and aerospace sectors.
