Union Minister Ajay Bhatt, speaking at the Advantage Vidarbha program in Nagpur, proudly declared India’s achievement in becoming self-reliant in defense production. He highlighted that, for the first time, India is leading a group of the top 25 countries in defense exports. This success is attributed to the government’s strategic move of banning the import of 4,666 defense components through the issuance of four comprehensive lists, resulting in substantial savings.
Minister Bhatt emphasized the significant progress in defense exports, noting that they have surged from Rs 4,682 crore in 2017-18 to an impressive Rs 15,916 crore in 2022-23. As of December 2023, defense exports have already reached about Rs 9,428 crore. He also mentioned that the decentralization of ordnance factories has contributed to the profitability of almost all defense Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
In alignment with the government’s vision, the defense ministry is actively fostering innovation and technology, further strengthening India’s position in defense production and exports.
